A youth orchestra associated with the activities of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) was part of the late Tan Sri Azizan’s original vision. After 8 years of music making by the MPO together with a myriad of education projects through Encounter as a foundation, the MPYO advertised its audition tour and 500 musicians across 7 cities including, Penang, Ipoh, KL, Kuantan, Johor, Kuching and KK were eventually narrowed down to 110 founding members of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (MPYO) who, since October 2006, have been preparing for their debut concert at the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas in Kuala Lumpur in August 2007 with MPO Associate Conductor, Kevin Field as their Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor.
